Cheetah Chat for 4/28/2025

Dear Chávez Families,

What a great week to be a cheetah!    This last we were  busy with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders showing us what they can do with our annual OSAS testing, planning and preparing for field trips, talent show, outdoor school and a school-wide musical performance.  Add into the mix jog-a-thon planning, playground expansion and abundant sunny recesses and you have a very busy elementary school!  We finished the week with over 20 Chávez Cheetahs running in the Duck Dash at Hayward Field on Saturday.

Safety Drills this Week
This week we will conduct two safety drills here at Chávez.  One is a standard fire drill with evacuation the other is a lockdown drill.  Our fire drill will be on Tuesday and the lockdown drill on Wedensday.

Drills are for staff and students, and are educational opportunities to practice life safety skills. For example, evacuation drills/fire drills are conducted at schools regularly. A fire alarm goes off, students line up and head outside. Since there is no simulation of a threat or hazard, these cause less trauma while imparting important skills and muscle memory. Lockdown drills are similar. There is no simulated violence needed to conduct them. The only information needed is for the protocol to be enacted, “Lockdown, locks, lights, out of sight,” and then students and staff perform the proper functions.

For all our drills, we use the I Love You Guys Standard Response Protocols. We encourage you to look at the I Love You Guys website to educate yourself on what it is. And, if appropriate, to share what you’ve learned with your child. https://iloveuguys.org/The-Standard-Response-Protocol.html

The safety and well-being of your child is our top priority. We will continue to keep you informed about important concerns at our school.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
