Cheetah Chat for October 6, 2025

Dear Chávez Families,

We are off and running into October and so many fantastic things are happening here at Chávez.  Our morning announcements each day feature staff and students sharing good news, giving encouragement and gratitude to one another, recognizing student leaders and celebrating our successes here at school. It has been a great effort to get this initiative off the ground and we aren't finished yet!  Looking ahead, we are finding other ways to involve more students and staff and continue to build community and belonging at Chávez.

An important note about Halloween this year at Chávez.  With increased focus on our instructional priorities and the challenges that halloween costumes can pose in terms of appropriateness and students being able to engage at school, we are not allowing students to wear costumes to school on halloween.  We know that this is a disappointment to some.  Please know that we have other events throughout the year to celebrate and connect with our Chávez Family.

Our parent group, PACK, will be hosting a Trick or Treat the Playground event on Thursday, October 30th, where students will be able to wear their costumes and play games.  This event is from 5:30 to 7:00 and  students must come with an adult.

Read on for more news you can use.

With gratitude,

Principal Kevin

Important Information About Our Title Program

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Our school receives federal funds for Title I programs that are part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended by Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA). Throughout the school year, we will continue to provide you with important information about this law and your child's education.

We are very proud of our teachers and feel they are ready for the coming year and we are prepared to give your child a high-quality education. As a Title I school, we must meet federal regulations related to teacher qualifications as defined in ESEA/ESSA. Under these regulations, you have the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teacher(s) or paraprofessional(s). If you request this information, the district or school will provide you with the following as soon as possible.

  • Whether the teacher meets state qualifications and licensing requirements for the grade level and subject he/she is teaching,

  • Whether the teacher received an emergency or conditional certificate through which state qualifications were waived, and

  • What undergraduate or graduate degrees the teacher holds, including major(s) or area(s) of concentration and the area of endorsement.

We are happy to provide you with the above-mentioned information in a timely manner, upon your request. We look forward to the year ahead and welcome your partnership in the important job of educating the children of our community. Continuous communication between home and school is key to the success of our educational program. As parents/guardians, you are encouraged to be actively involved in your child's education by talking to your child about school, volunteering whenever possible, and participating in school/district activities!

If you have specific questions about this notification, please contact your school's principal. If you have any additional questions about ESSA and its impact on schools, please contact Nadira Rizkallah, Federal Instruction Program Administrator, Eugene School District 4J at 541-790-7550, or visit www.ed.gov/nclb.
